Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse
Treatment Services
Substance abuse and addiction are health disorders affecting
the lives of millions of men, women and children world-wide. The heavy human, social and economic cost
resulting from these problems can be seen all around us in the lives of friends,
neighbors, family members, co-workers, employers,
.
These conditions have no boundaries with respect to race, age, educational,
vocational or socioeconomic status.
Like all other health disorders,
effective treatment is conducted by a trained professional and begins with a comprehensive
diagnostic evaluation. The evaluation
produces information which the clinician uses to develop a course of treatment designed
specifically for each individual client.
Elements of effective treatment
include:
 | Screening
|
 | Intake
|
 | Assessment
|
 | Treatment planning
|
 | Discharge care planning
|
 | Support
|
 | Confidentiality
|
Treatment must respond to each
individuals needs relative to:
 | Preventive and primary health care
|
 | Co-occurring mental health disorders
|
 | Racial, ethnic, gender and cultural
issues
|
 | Employment and educational needs
|
 | Advocacy and support
|
 | Physical-cognitive disabilities
|
Medical Interventions
Along with treatment for substance
disorders, the diagnostic assessment may reveal the need for medical interventions such as
the use of medications which help block cravings, facilitate detoxification, or are
beneficial in the treatment of a co-occurring mental health disorder such as depression. The assessment may also indicate a need to address
physical disorders like anemia, malnutrition, liver disorders, diabetes, hypertension,
dental, pre-natal care, medically supervised detoxification, and testing and treatment for
infectious diseases, especially those related to substance abuse and associated high-risk
behaviors.
An individualized approach is the
hallmark of effective treatment. Adanta is
committed to individualizing each persons plan of care and to continuously improving
the quality of care provided.
